FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

• How do I schedule my recital recording?

  To schedule a recording for any type of recital (Required or Non-Required):

  1. Request recording and livestreaming services while completing the online Student Recital Confirmation and Repertoire Form administered by the Scheduling Department. This online form must be submitted no later than 40 days prior to your recital. You’ll receive a link to this form when you receive your recital date.
  2. Your requests will be reviewed by the Recording Services Manager who will then confirm the availability of recording services via email.
  3. You’ll receive a link to pay for the selected services online. Payment must be received no later than 2 weeks prior to your recital or a $50 late fee will be added.

• Do you offer video recording and live streaming?

  Yes, MSM Recording Arts offers HD video recording and live streaming of student recitals that take place in Greenfield Hall, Miller Recital Hall, Mikowsky Recital Hall, Myers Recital Hall, Pforzheimer Hall, and Ades Performance Space.

  PLEASE NOTE: Recording Arts can livestream a maximum of three (3) simultaneous events at one time. Livestreaming services may not be available due to other streaming events already scheduled and confirmed such as MSM ensemble concerts or other student recitals. You are encouraged to sign up for live streaming early as it is scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.

  Students may also personally video record their student recital using a single camera on a tripod or a smartphone/tablet. Personal video recording of student recitals must be done in accordance with the Equipment & Venue Policies and Personal Use Terms of Agreement outlined in the Student Recital Guide (#17) available on the MSM Student Portal.

• Does MSM Recording Arts provide live sound amplification for student recitals?

  Live sound amplification services are offered for a fee for Jazz Arts and CPP student recitals in Miller Recital Hall and Ades Performance Space only and requires that students have also selected the Multi-Mic recording upgrade option.

  Live sound amplification services will include an audio mix being amplified through PA speakers in the hall plus a limited amount of stage monitors as determined by the audio engineer working the recital (Ades: 4 maximum, Miller: 3 maximum, Myers: 2 maximum).

  Note: In Myers Recital Hall only, amplification of up to 3 inputs (i.e., a vocalist and/or pianist) can be accommodated without an additional fee when the Multi-Mic Audio Recording option has been selected. A live sound engineer is not included for recitals in Myers. If your music or entire band requires amplification, or if you have things like keyboards/synths, instrument pedal boards, or string instruments that need amplification, please schedule your recital in Miller or Ades so you can have a dedicated live sound engineer and the necessary equipment. Myers is a fantastic venue for recording a quintet or sextet but is not equipped to provide full-service live sound amplification due to its size and like of dedicated PA system.

• What is the Multi-Mic Audio Recording Package?

  Multi-mic (multitrack) audio recording is available to students whose recitals are scheduled to take place in Myers Recital Hall, Miller Recital Hall, or Ades Performance Space. This package is intended primarily for jazz or contemporary ensembles that benefit from a multi-mic (or close-miking) setup.

• When will I receive my recordings?

  You’ll receive an email when your recital recordings are ready to download, normally within 5-7 business days following your recital. During the peak recital and performance season of March-May however, production will take longer. Please plan accordingly for any deadlines.

• Can I get CD or DVD copies of my student recital?

  No. All recordings of student recitals and private recording sessions are delivered digitally in full-resolution format.

• Where can my recital be recorded?

  Audio recording is available in Greenfield Hall, Myers Recital Hall, Mikowsky Hall, Pforzheimer Hall, Miller Recital Hall, Ades Performance Space, and the Bossi-Comelli Studio.

  HD video recording and live streaming is available in Greenfield Hall, Miller Recital Hall, Mikowsky Recital Hall, Myers Recital Hall, Pforzheimer Hall, and Ades Performance Space only.

  Myers Recording Studio cannot record recitals given off-campus, in Room 707, or in Rahm Hall.

• Who records my recital?

  Myers Recording Studio’s professional engineering staff records student recitals.

• Can I bring in my own audio recording equipment and/or audio engineer to record my recital?

  No. In accordance with MSM’s Audio Recording Policy, all concerts, events and student recitals at MSM are recorded and engineered by the Myers Recording Studio facility and its staff only. Personal audio recording is strictly prohibited. Violation of this policy can result in school sanctions.

• Will I see a recording engineer before or during my recital?

  Most recitals are recorded from the recording studio control rooms connected to the performance venues, so you may not see a recording engineer before or during your recital.

• Do you lend or rent any recording equipment for recitals?

  No, Myers Recording Studio does not lend or rent recording equipment under any circumstances.

• What do I do if there are problems with my recital recording?

  It is your responsibility to listen to your recital recording and notify Myers Recording Studio immediately of any problems. The studio will make any possible corrections within 30 days of your receipt of your recording order.

• Does Myers Recording Studio provide editing services for recital recordings?

  No, Myers Recording Studio does not offer editing, mixing, mastering, or any other post-production services for student recital recordings.

• How do I cancel my confirmed recital recording request?

  You must personally cancel a confirmed recital recording reservation with Myers Recording Studio by emailing recordingrequests@lists.herosee.net.

  A $50 cancellation fee will apply if less than four weeks’ notice is given.

• What is the Recording Release Agreement?

  The Recording Release Agreement states that, in accordance with receiving permission to record with Myers Recording Studio, all individuals involved agree to abide by the contents of the agreement if the recording is used or distributed for anything other than personal purposes (e.g., promotional or commercial distribution). Anyone requesting a private recording session or recital recording must read, sign and submit the Recording Release Agreement.
