  To hire a musician:

  If you are looking to hire a musician to perform at a special event, please complete the following form. (Your submission will be shared to a secure database accessible to all registered MSM musicians, so please be accurate and concise.):

  Hire A Musician Request

  Once submitted, MSM musicians who are interested and available might contact you directly. Upon review and selection of your preferred musician, you can then finalize all logistics, including final details, fees, and a contract (if requested). Please note: As this is a referral service only, we cannot guarantee musicians for your event.

  Our Hire a Musician Request Service connects those looking for performers for a special event with MSM musicians. We frequently help to facilitate music for a range of:

  • Engagements, weddings and ceremonies
  • Receptions
  • Corporate events
  • Social gatherings

  Performers are available in the greater NYC area.

  This program is organized by The Center for Career Readiness & Community Impact (CCRCI). The CCRCI is a key link between potential employers and the highly talented students and alumni of Manhattan School of Music. Find out more about the CCRCI here.

  Our Private Teacher Directory is a searchable database of currently active private teachers from the MSM community. The Private Teacher Directory can be found here:

  Lessons arranged through this service would be taught either in the client’s home or at the teacher’s studio/home. Any lessons arranged through our Teacher Referral program will not be taught at the School and are not part of an official academic program. This service is not for those seeking to become students at Manhattan School of Music or to study with our College or Precollege faculty members.

  Those seeking music instruction for non-beginner children might also be interested in the School’s prestigious Precollege Division, which offers a full day of lessons, ensembles, and classes for ages 5–18, accepted by audition.

  Musicians: To become part of the Hire a Musician and/or Private Teacher Directory rosters, MSM students and alums should see below for important details.

  Please note: This service functions separately from School’s on-campus College and Precollege and those programs’ private instruction offerings.

Information for Current Students

• Hire a Musician Request Board

  Instructions for musicians:

  • Potential clients request musician(s) for upcoming events via filling out the CCRCI’s Hire a Musician Request form. This information is automatically posted to the Hire a Musician Request Board. (The Hire a Musician Request Board is monitored by the CCRCI office. Any inaccurate or inappropriate requests are promptly removed.)
  • Students who are 100% able to make a professional commitment should respond to the potential client directly.
    • You are responsible for reaching out to the potential client promptly, and in a professional manner. Final decisions for hiring are made by potential clients, so including URLs to professional videos and/or audio examples can greatly increase your chances of making an impression. If you need someone in the CCRCI office to look over your draft email, please send it to centerforimpact@herosee.net.
    • If the request is for an ensemble, you must have an ensemble ready to go, and be willing to act as bandleader.
    • Regarding your rates: Budget details are included in all posted requests. With that said, the final fee should be confirmed between you and the potential client. Your negotiated fee is 100% yours.
  • If/when the potential client hires you, immediately fill out the CCRCI’s Hire a Musician Report. As this is a free service offered to MSM students, these form responses help the CCRCI to track and monitor clients.
  • If you become unavailable for an event you’ve been hired for, it is your sole responsibility to immediately contact the client and let them know, along with providing contact information for three MSM musicians who are interested and available, as potential replacements.
  • INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS: Approved CPT is required to work off campus, and a social security number is required for all paid work. If you are hired, you are required to bring a completed CPT form (signed by your department head) along with a letter of employment from the client to the ISS office, at least two weeks prior to the date of the event. Any additional questions should be directed to iss@herosee.net.

  Private Teacher Directory

  Every year, the office receives hundreds of requests for private teachers.

  To be considered for these teaching opportunities, experienced students and alumni must register by completing the Teacher Referral Form linked below. Your information will then be shared with those requesting listings of private teachers, and you may be contacted directly.

  NOTE: Students and alumni must teach these private lessons off-campus, as they are not affiliated with the school’s academic or performance offerings.

  One on One Career Advising

  The CCRCI staff provides professional career coaching in a supportive environment. In individual sessions, students can explore their goals and create action plans for success. Appointments may focus on career plans and projects, on creating and editing promotional materials, and more. Additional mentoring is available through MSM’s extensive network of accomplished alumni, faculty, and friends.
